Frances:- Frances first showed her musical ability at the age of 9 when she began taking piano lessons. Her energetic singing earned her 'leading lady' in school musicals, however, it was her oboe playing that gained her a place at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Since graduating, Frances now teaches musicality and oboe to children.
Frances has starred with Solid Gold Seventies since their formation, perfectly emulating the soulful vocals of seventies superstars such as Tina Turner, Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor. Frances' amazing voice has garnered great critical acclaim with audiences and critics alike commenting on her powerful, highly expressive vocals which have captivated theatre audiences all over the UK.
James:- James first picked up a guitar at the age of 12 and quickly progreassed to complicated rock guitar styles. He formed his first band within six months and has played professionally since the age of 15.
James formed Solid Gold Seventies after realising that in order to recreate the energy and excitement of the live concerts of the 1970s, he needed to find some of the U.K.'s finest musicians who were capable of performing the complex arrangements LIVE.
Was he right? Audiences all over the U.K. have answered with a resounding YES!!!!
Outwith music, James has a B.Sc.(hons.) degree in Physics and has studied Audio Engineering at the prestegious S.A.E. Institute.
Matt:- Matt first showed an interest in music as a teenager when he began to learn the drums. However, in order to satisfy a yearning to get to the front of the stage (where the view was better) he picked up a guitar, learned a few chords and basically never put it down again. As a rhythm guitarist he began singing and playing with a highly regarded band with whom he toured Europe on three occasions. During this time, he also became highly skilled on a range of musical instruments including the keyboard.
More recently, Matt has concentrated on songwriting. His material has gained great critical acclaim, with his music echoing his eclectic musical influences including the Beatles, the Doors, the Sex Pistols and Pink Floyd.
Matt has starred with Solid Gold Seventies since their inception. It is a role which he has made his own with his great musicianship, outstanding showmanship and love for 1970s music.
Cheryl:- Cheryl began singing at a young age and has performed professionally with many bands and shows. Her superb vocals and songwriting earned her a record deal and she has released several critically acclaimed singles as a solo artist.
As well as being an outstanding vocalist, Cheryl has previously worked as a professional dancer. Before joining Solid Gold seventies, Cheryl starred as a dancer with the world famous Scottish Rockettes pro dance team. Since joining Solid Gold Seventies, Cheryl has draw on her vast experience as a professional dancer to choreograph the spectacular dance routines that can be seen in our live theatre shows.
Billy:- Billy began playing the drums at the age of 12 as a pipe band drummer. Then he saw the great Mick Tucker (Sweet) on Top of the Pops and was bitten by the glam rock bug.
Prior to joining Solid Gold Seventies, Billy had already gained a reputation as one of Scotland's top drummers and had performed with several of Scotland's top bands, theatre shows and toured Europe with a Jazz big band.
His influences range from big band drummers such as Buddy Rich and Eric Delaney to rock drummers such as Cozy Powell and Neil Peart. Not forgetting the most influencial drummer in the world, ANIMAL from the muppets (drum parts played by big band drummer Ronnie Verrall).
